Data Protection Directive (95/46/EC)

The Data Protection Directive (95/46/EC) is a European Union directive which regulates the processing of personal data within the European Union. It is an important component of EU privacy and human rights law and is sometimes referred to as EU Cookie Law.

The changed directive 2009/136/EC requires users to give an explicit consent prior to storing of cookies on their device or access to information on the device. The object of these directives is to ensure user's right to privacy with respect to processing of their personal data. In essence, the directives say that any time a user's personal data is collected and processed other than for the immediate fulfillment of a request, the user must provide prior explicit consent to the use of this data.

A website must comply with the regulations if it is based in the European Union, or targeted at European audiences. A website cannot be excluded from the legislation just because it is hosted in a location outside of the European Union. A website does not have to comply if it is targeted exclusively at non-European audiences. Different countries have their own policy on these new regulations.

What are Cookies?

A cookie is a simple text file that is stored on your computer or mobile device by a website's server and only that server will be able to retrieve or read the contents of that cookie. Each cookie is unique to your web browser. It will contain some anonymous information such as a unique identifier and the site name and some digits and numbers. It allows a website to remember things like your preferences or what's in your shopping basket.

You can read more about cookies on www.allaboutcookies.org/.

How do I turn cookies off?

Most browsers accept cookies automatically, but you can alter the settings of your browser to erase cookies or prevent automatic acceptance if you prefer. Generally you have the option to accept all cookies, to be notified when a cookie is issued or reject all cookies. Visit the 'options' or 'preferences' menu on your browser to change settings, and check the following links for more browser-specific information:

To switch off third-party advertising cookies, you can turn these off by visiting the Internet Advertising Bureau's consumer advice site http://www.youronlinechoices.com/.

For first and third party cookies an explicit consent is now required in several countries. This means that prior to place a cookie on the device of an user, this user has to give explicit consent that he agrees to the placement of a cookie on its device. For session cookies this explicit consent is not required.

This website

This website needs session cookies to work properly. When you login a unique session ID will be affiliated with your browsing session. Session cookies are stored only temporarily during a browser session. This allows the web server to distinguish your requests from other Unit4 ERP web sessions. The web server stores the unique session ID in a so called ASP.NET session cookie. The website uses additional session cookies to improve the browsing experience. Another example is the size of the menu pane in the web browser.

The session cookies will be deleted automatically when you close the web browser, when they time out or when you log out from Unit4 ERP. No personal information is stored on the device by this website. By continuing to use this website, you agree to the placement of session cookies on your device.
